Kalajdzic’s journey to Wolves

As Sasa Kalajdzic becomes the latest summer signing for Wolves after his move from VfB Stuttgart, wolves.co.uk reflects on the striker’s career path to Molineux.

2016-2019 | Having originally played as a midfielder for the reserve side of Austrian club FC Admira Wacker Modling, Kalajdzic is converted into a goalscoring forward, netting 11 goals in 33 appearances.

5th July 2019 | Kalajdzic signs for VfB Stuttgart but suffers a cruciate ligament injury during pre-season training camp, which puts him out for almost an entire year.

28th May 2020 | The Austrian eventually makes his league debut for Stuttgart, coming on as a 78th minute substitute in the 2019/20 2. Bundesliga campaign against Hamburger SV.

21st June 2020 | His first Stuttgart goal arrives just a few games later as he nets in the 6-0 home drubbing of FC Nuremberg, as the side earn promotion to the Bundesliga.

10th August 2020 | The following season, Kalajdzic (top row, fourth from left) begins the season leading the line for Stuttgart in the top-flight of German football.

26th September 2020 | Having found the back of the net in his first Bundesliga appearance, Kalajdzic makes it two from two by scoring his sides fourth goal against 1. FSV Mainz 05 in his second outing.

3rd October 2020 | The stunning start to his season continues, as he scores in the third consecutive game, leaping high in the box to head Stuttgart a point from their encounter with Bayer Leverkusen.

15th December 2020 | After a run of eight league games without a goal, Kalajdzic ends his drought with a brace against Union Berlin to earn a 2-2 draw.

15th December 2020 | Following his second strike at home to Union, the Austrian goes on another run of six games without finding the net.

29th January 2021 | The end of January 2021 starts a run of eight goals from seven league games, as Kalajdzic heads his side in front against Mainz in Stuttgart.

6th February 2021 | That stunning run also included a brace against Bayer Leverkusen, but he can’t stop Stuttgart from falling to a 5-2 defeat on the road.

25th March 2021 | A double against Scotland! What a way to mark your full international debut – Kalajdzic finds the net twice to earn Austria a FIFA World Cup qualification point at Hampden Park.

7th May 2021 | Kalajdzic’s first season in the Bundesliga ends on 16 goals, ranking him as the 6th top scorer in the division as Stuttgart end the campaign 9th in the league.

29th May 2021 | After a second international goal on his second start – this time in a 3-1 win over Faroe Islands, Kalajdzic is named in Austria’s squad for Euro 2020.

26th June 2021 | Having played 90 minutes across Austria’s group stage matches without finding the net, Kalajdzic pulls a goal back in extra time against Italy in the Last 16, but it was too little, too late.

8th January 2022 | Unable to capitalise on the momentum gathered from his previous campaign, the striker is kept out of action for the first half of the 2021/22 season following a shoulder injury.

2nd February 2022 | Back in the team and back among the goals. Kalajdzic finds the back of the net at home to Eintracht Frankfurt, but he can’t help Stuttgart to victory, falling 3-2.

5th March 2022 | Further goals will follow as he scores against Borussia Monchengladbach, Union Berlin and Arminia Bielefield during a four-game spell.

8th May 2022 | With Stuttgart in a relegation battle, Kalajdzic earns his side a famous – and crucial – point away at Bayern Munich thanks to his second-half header.

4th June 2022 | His final Stuttgart goal is the most important of the lot as his header against Koln helps the team to a 2-1 win – ensuring their place in the Bundesliga for another season.

30th August 2022 | Kalajdzic swaps the Bundesliga for the Premier League as he signs for Wolves to become the club’s fifth summer signing of 2022.
