The Portuguese converted at the back post from Matheus Nunes’ brilliant delivery for his second goal of the season which, unlike at Leeds United on the opening day, was enough for the three points. Wolves kept Southampton at bay from that point and remained a threat on the counter attack, and although he’d have preferred them to finish in more goals, Podence was pleased with the final outcome at Molineux.
On getting the win
“It’s a very important win because we had a few games, not bad games, but not scoring, not winning, so it was very important to win the game. 1-0, we didn’t concede, we had a very solid performance and we scored, so we’re very happy and have to build on it now.”
On being a threat on the counter
“I think we are preparing the games with counter attacks as well. We have been training these kinds of plays, so we had an opportunity today and we scored, so we are very happy with the training we’re doing, and it was the difference.”
On adapting to a new style
“I think it’s quite the same, but the tactics are a little bit different, so we are finding our way. It’s time to adapt and build a different team.”
On converting more opportunities
“It’s one thing we’re trying to build. We are in a new build up, we have new players, we are doing a lot of different things, but are working so hard during the week, and we have to perform better and in the attack.”
