Costa's journey to Wolves

Diego Costa’s fascinating career has brought him to Molineux, but wolves.co.uk goes back in time to his journey in the game before Wolves.

Born in Brazil, but it’s in Spain where the striker made his name, at Atletico Madrid, while he’s well known for a successful stint at Chelsea in the Premier League.

Now having returned to England, we take a look back at what has gone before the attacker, who has 12 major honours to his name.

23rd January 2010 | A young Costa, in Valladolid colours, battles with Barcelona’s Gerard Pique in a 2010 La Liga clash.

27th August 2012 | The early days in the Spanish capital, Costa charges away from Carlos Gurpegui of Athletic Club at the Vicente Calderon.

25th March 2013 | Before the days of Spain, Costa in international action for Brazil in a friendly with Russia.

17th May 2013 | Costa celebrates with his teammates after opening the scoring during Atletico’s Copa del Rey final victory over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

11th January 2014 | In the thick of the action with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi back in 2014.

2nd February 2014 | Lapping up the celebrations of the Calderon after scoring his side's second goal against Real Sociedad.

30th April 2014 | Costa bags from the spot at his future home Stamford Bridge and helps Atletico into the Champions League final.

18th May 2014 | A first La Liga title celebration for Costa, who milks the applause.

24th May 2014 | The biggest stage of all, Costa on the ball in the Champions League final, which Real Madrid won in extra time.

24th May 2015 | A Premier League winner in blue – Costa lists the trophy at Stamford Bridge.

3rd December 2016 | Costa celebrates at the Etihad after bagging in a big Premier League win against Manchester City.

18th February 2017 | The Spaniard’s only visit previous visit to Molineux came in 2017 when he bagged in an FA Cup win for Chelsea.

21st May 2017 | A second Premier League success for Costa, who takes a moment with the trophy at Stamford Bridge.

27th May 2017 | Costa’s final goal in Chelsea came in the FA Cup final against Arsenal at Wembley.

16th May 2018 | Costa gets his hands on the Europa League trophy, after Atletico defeated Marseille in the final in France.

15th June 2018 | Bagging at the World Cup – Costa wheels away after netting against Portugal in the 2018 World Cup.

15th August 2018 | Costa lifts the Super Cup trophy thanks to Atletico’s victory over Real Madrid in Estonia, when he claimed the record for the fastest goal in the competition 49 seconds in.

18th September 2019 | Walking out in the Champions League alongside Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

28th November 2021 | A winner in the country of his birth – Costa celebrates Atletico MG’s Brazilian title.

12th September 2022 | Costa is officially announced as a Wolves player, as he marks his return to the Premier League.
