Hwang | ‘I know that I have more to show’

Hee Chan Hwang is determined to get back to his best having overcome his recent injury worries enough to appear off the bench in Saturday’s loss to Chelsea.

The South Korean had already missed a chunk of the campaign when he suffered an adductor muscle strain having found the back of the net on international duty, but with his latest return to the pitch, Hwang is hoping to show what he is capable of to help Wolves out of their current slump in form.

On remaining positive

“The team is in a really difficult place at the moment, but the players are staying strong. We know that the fans are cheering us on, so that’s motivating us to be even stronger and to continue to push harder.”

On getting back on the pitch

“I’m focusing on things that I can do. Even in a situation like this, I have belief in myself. I’m trying my best to improve things that I may be lacking. I believe that I can be better.

“I know that I have more to show. My strongest desire now is to be grateful to have come back from the injury, to work hard in training and show what I’m capable of when I’m on the pitch.”

On welcoming Costa to Wolves

“He hasn’t played in a while so he may not be at his 100 per cent, but in training, I was able to see why he was such a great player. I was also able to see what kind of player he is as well.

“He showed his qualities in training already. He’s a player who can help our team and I’m also watching him to learn and to compete with him to help the team.”

On competition within the squad

“Competition within the team is a natural environment. I’m where I am in my career because of those competitions with great teammates. As always, there’s competition in every moment.

“If I focus on myself, I was able to show my qualities every time. More than competing, I want to focus on myself. The most important thing is for me to improve my own qualities.”

On changing the head coach

“I learned so much from him [Lage] whilst he was here. I had a very good time with him. Towards the end of his tenure, I could’ve felt disappointed, but I still learned a lot from him and he helped our team as a whole. I’m thankful that he always motivated us to be better.

“When the new manager arrives, we want to be even better. I’ve been through similar situations in the past. When a manager changes, I have to prove what I can do and over time, I was able to win his trust.

“I’m not sure who our next manager will be, but if I can show what I can do, I think I have more than enough to be at my best again. I’m focused on showing my unique qualities as a player.”
