The old gold showed their fighting spirit to battle back from a goal down and earn a point thanks to a nice team move and fine curling finish from the Portuguese. Neves says the group sat down and discussed how a different attitude was required in west London and the group responded to get a point on board, which the midfielder hopes is something to build on.
On getting a point
“It was an important point. Of course, we came here to win the game. We showed that since the beginning, we were very compact – different to last week and we had a few chances.
“It’s a really hard stadium to come to, they have a great team and are doing a great season, so in the end it’s an important point for us. It gives us a little bit of confidence now, we have three games in a row at home, so it’s a great opportunity for us.”
On his brilliant finish
“As soon as Nelson passed the ball to Traore, I thought I was in the better position to shoot, and he did really well to leave the ball, because it’s not easy when you’re in that position to leave the ball to your team mates.
“Then with the bodies that were in front of the goalkeeper, it was really hard for him to save it. It was a good goal, really important because it was straight after their goal, but it would have been better to win the game.”

On showing character
“We spoke about it straight after the game last week. We cannot concede four goals at home and not show our attitude and strengths. Today, the goal was to win the game and I think we did really well, better than last week. That’s our target – keep improving.”
On scoring straight after the Bees
“It was really important for us to score straight after them. If we see the match, there was not many chances for them, apart from set pieces – they’re a fantastic team from set pieces. They scored from a well-worked corner, but our reaction was really good, we scored one and should have scored a few more. We had Diego chances, we didn’t score, but really different from last week. Now, we need to work on this and improve.”
On Costa’s red card
“We’ve been talking about strikers since the beginning of the season. We had Raul injured, then Sasa injured, now we have Diego out for three games, I think. We’ll find solutions, we don’t have a big squad, but I’m sure we have players than can do that because we have a lot of quality, a lot of spirit, so someone will do the work and do it really well.”
On building on the point
“We need to build on these games. Really hard pitch to come and play. We created good chances to win the game and need to build on it, see the positives, work on the negatives, and try to get as man points as possible.”
