As Rayan Ait-Nouri tucked away the 95th minute winner, the goalkeeper couldn’t hide his emotions, charging up the pitch to join in the joyous celebrations in front of the away end. Sa hopes the win will lay the foundations for a much improved second half of the season and calls on the old gold to continue the work rate and attitude on show on Merseyside on Monday.
On a big Boxing Day win
“Of course, we are happy because it’s a very important win. We need victories and of course we are all happy with this win.
“It was an intense game. I think the team ran and fought. We fought for the win and, of course, we did it. Now, we’ll continue. We have a lot of work to do and a lot of games to play.”

On joining in the celebrations
“I saw Rayan alone at the last post and when I saw the ball inside [of the goal], I ran to celebrate with them. All of us had to go and celebrate with the team because we deserved it and fought for it and are very happy.
“Everybody enjoyed the moment, 2-1 in the last minute, and we deserved a bit of luck. Football is lucky sometimes and we deserved it. We fought for this luck, and it was our job. We are happy.”
On showing the right response
“It was early the goal of Everton, but we had to try to score. We did it and we were happy about the win. I want to say thanks to our fans because their support was very important for us. Let’s go together.”
