The old gold were narrowly beaten by Manchester United, but pushed their visitors all the way, so can take heart from their performance, as the Premier League games keep on coming. The skipper knows that more than half of the season remains to turn performances into results and saw enough in Saturday’s showing, which he felt deserved at least a point, to have confidence in the task ahead.
On not getting the desired result
“A loss is a loss. Nobody likes to lose games. I think we worked really hard on Saturday. We were in control for a long time in the game, against a really hard team to play against. I think we didn’t deserve the result in the end, but this is football.”
On deserving more
“We worked really hard. The boys did fantastic work, that’s why everyone is really frustrated at the moment, because we felt we did enough to get at least a point. It’s football, they scored a goal with the three or four chances they had, we didn’t score, and let’s work really hard, starting tomorrow, and thinking of the Villa game.”
On moving on quickly
“Everyone says we have a long way to go, a long race to go, so we need to work very hard. After the Everton game, we said we were just thinking about Man United, and it’s the same, we’ve lost and are just thinking about Villa now. We know we can do better, we can play with more quality, and that’s our mentality.”
