Nunes | On Villa point, taking chances and showing improvements

Matheus Nunes believes Wolves needed to do better to stop Aston Villa from getting back into the game at Villa Park after such an improved showing in the opening 45 minutes.

The Portuguese felt the players in gold and black also needed to do more when they were on top in the first-half to fully exert their dominance over Unai Emery’s side, but is still positive that the improvements brought on in the early stages of Julen Lopetegui’s tenure will see them earn more Premier League points in the future.

On not matching first-half performance to second

“I think we played very well in the first-half, we scored one goal and we were winning well in the first-half, but I think we could have done better in the second-half.

“We didn’t have the ball as many times as we would have wanted, but we’ve just got to keep our heads up and hopefully we will win the next game.”

On giving Villa opportunity to get back in the game

“Football is like that. If you don’t score, they go there and have one chance and then they make pressure.

“Football is like this, but I think that overall, we played well.”

On the team improving

“We have a lot of quality. We already had that quality, but we were just not showing how we wanted to. But I think now everything will be better in the second half of the season.”

On Lopetegui’s impact on him

“I think I’m much better and I want to help the team as much as I can. I’ve been working the same ever since I arrived here, but I think we’re going to get better.”
