Sunday’s loss to Manchester City aside, Wolves appear to have turned a corner, rising out of the Premier League relegation zone after picking up important wins since Christmas. The South Korean has featured regularly in that period, scoring at Liverpool in the Emirates FA Cup, and highlighted correct positioning on the pitch as an area the head coach is drilling into the players at Compton Park each day.
On working with Lopetegui
“Even outside the pitch, he's such a nice person. When he sees something that's not fair for the players, he's always the first one to step up to try to take care of us. In games, he's always focused on motivating the players to help us perform better on the pitch.”
On setting up to face City
“Not only me, but for all of us, he [Lopetegui] gives us a lot of detailed instructions on how we should play from our own third into the middle third and then into the final third.
“Also, he speaks with us a lot about how each player should play depending on whether he's on the right or left, and how we should position ourselves both defensively and offensively. Tactically, it's comfortable for us because we know exactly how we should be playing.”
On Sunday’s reverse
“Of course, even against a strong team like Man City, we went there with an aim to win. We made many dangerous moments in the first half and also some more in the second half, but in the end, it was not the result that we wanted, so it's very disappointing.”
On reuniting with Haaland
“I met him before and after the game as well. He's the best player at the moment. He keeps moving forward to break even more records now. I'm proud to have played with him and I'm also proud of him to see him play so well. I think he can continue to be the best player and hope that he keeps playing well.”
