Maximilian Kilman insists Wolves must push on from this position, after a confidence-boosting victory over Chelsea.
The defender captained the side to a clean sheet and victory thanks to Matheus Nunes’ stunning strike and took pride in the effort put in by all those in old gold at Molineux. With eight Premier League fixtures remaining, Kilman knows there’s still work to do and insists Wolves can’t rest on the work they’ve done so far.
On a big win over Chelsea
“It was amazing, from start to finish. Everyone gave their all and played really well at times. I thought we were brilliant, everyone worked hard, created good chances, and we deserved the win. We need to the look at the next games, teams that are in and around us, so we really need to push on.
“We knew with a new manager they were going to start sharp, players wanting to impress, and do well. We knew how quickly they’d come on us and I think we countered that well, scored a goal and won the game.”
On Nunes’ stunning goal
“To be fair, I probably had the worst angle because I saw it from the other side, but an unbelievable goal. We saw the replay and it was an unbelievable finish. Delighted for him.
“We had to stay calm, it was an early goal – of course, emotions were high, but we had to stay calm, play the rest of the game and do our best. We showed that.”
On stepping in as captain
“It was great. Whenever I have to step in, or whatever job I have to do, I’m ready. Today I’m delighted, we won and [got a] clean sheet, so I couldn’t be happier.”
On the support of Molineux
“Amazing support as always, and today with the home crowd they really helped us push on and we have to go again next week and push on from there.”
On pushing on from here
“We always show team spirit in each game and today everything clicked – we played well and deserved it. We need to stay calm, we’ve got eight big games to go, so we need to go from there and push on.
“It’s crazy how many teams are in it [the relegation battle]. We need to keep fighting because we’ve got a lot to play for and a lot to go. We’ve got eight more games, we take it game by game and do our best.”
