Ruben Neves was full of praise for debutant Dan Bentley after the goalkeeper produced several stunning stops of his Wolves debut in the defeat against Manchester United.
Replacing Jose Sa in the starting 11 at Old Trafford, Bentley was his side’s man of the match as he made a number of saves in an attempt to keep his team in the match, despite Wolves coming unstuck at Old Trafford, and Neves admitted his pride at seeing the English stopper earn his Premier League bow on the biggest stage.
On Bentley’s impressive debut
“He’s an unbelievable guy. Since he came in, he’s worked so hard and we know that he’s a fantastic goalkeeper because we work with him every week and in every training session and he works really hard to help the team.
“I’m really happy for him and I hope he enjoyed the game, of course we lost, but it was a fantastic game from him and there was some super saves in there that stopped some certain goals today, so he’s a fantastic player and fantastic guy as well.
“I’m really happy and proud of his performance today and hope he has lots of success in the future.”
On defeat against Man United
“It was a really hard game. They started the game really well and pressed us a lot, but after the first 20 minutes we were more clam and tried to play our game and have the ball a little bit more, but they are a really strong team in the counter-attacks and when they have the ball in the middle of the pitch, because then they have very fast players up front, so it’s really hard to defend against them.
“In the second half, we started really well, to be honest, with some corners and chances for us, but of course, all their chances have come on the counter-attack because they are one of the best teams doing that.
“With Bruno [Fernandes] and Eriksen doing passes and Sancho and Antony running a lot, it’s really hard to play against them. They did the same for the goals, and we knew this before the game, but it's really hard. The second-goal, we were all up front trying to get a point here and they scored, but the game was like that. We tried to play and they scored the goals at what they are better at.”
On not taking chances
“We had possession, we didn’t create too many clear chances, but we had chances to do better up front as well.
“We had a few movements that we did really well, set-pieces as well, but they are really clinical up front, with really fast players up front, and we knew that before the game, but it’s still hard to defend against this kind of thing.”
On two matches remaining
“We’re going game by game. We want to have as many points as we can in the Premier League. That’s our main goal. Today, we’re playing at Old Trafford which is big motivation.
“It doesn’t matter the table, it doesn’t matter the points and just playing here is fantastic for us as players, it’s a dream to play in these kinds of pitches, so we just want to get as many points as we can until the end of the season.
“We have two games to go and next week is our last game at home so we will do everything to get the three points with the atmosphere being fantastic at home. Our fans in here today were fantastic again, so we will try to get as many points as we can for them as well.”
