Having scored Wolves’ final goal at Molineux of the 2022/23 Premier League season, Hee Chan Hwang is determined to carry the momentum into next campaign and help push the team to greater heights.
The South Korean pounced on a rebound following Adama Traore’s stunning 80 yard run to put Wolves ahead against Everton at Molineux, but after settling for a draw with the Toffees, Hwang is looking ahead to next season and insists he is ready to fight not only to secure his position in the team under Julen Lopetegui but to ensure his side get off to the best possible start.
On scoring in the final home game of 2022/23
“I didn’t play from the start many times this season, but of course, every single time, I try to help my teammates and I try to do my best to help the team.
“From my effort, I scored today and that’s why I was so happy to score a goal.
“I like being the striker, the number nine, but the number 10 also and on the wing. But I just like to play well with my teammates and play well in front of our fans and for my team.
“Wherever I play and whatever position I play, I just try to give my best.”
On the draw with Everton
“Our aim was to stay in the Premier League and we did, but never the less, we wanted to win our last home game of the season.
“We were determined to win, and we didn’t win, but we played so well. The result was not what we wanted, we wanted to win in front of our supporters and our fans.
“But we played well, but this is the important thing, to play well in front of our fans and give everything.”
On securing Premier League safety
“When we started this season, of course our aim was not to fight for the championship, and although we are so happy to stay in the Premier League, this was also not our aim.
“But after the World Cup, our aim was to win as many games as possible, and at home, we won so many games and we played so well.
“Next season, we will try to start well, aim high up the table, and fight to do better.”

On aims for next season
“It’s been a tough season and we will try, as much as possible, to win for our fans and for our team. I’m ready for the fight to achieve our aims.
“I don’t know [if I will get more chances], I haven’t spoken to the coach, but I always try to fight for my position and I’m ready to help my team.
“I will give my best, every single game.”
On Ruben Neves’ future
“We don’t know if he will leave or he will stay, but I hope he stays. It’s not just me – every player and all the fans will say the same thing.
“He’s just an amazing player – as a captain, as a player and as a person, he’s done so many things well for us and I want to keep playing with him, because I just think he’s the best player for us and for these fans.”
