Wolves defender Toti spoke with pride after earning a first call up to the senior Portugal squad for next month’s internationals.
Toti played a crucial role in steering Wolves to Premier League survival in recent months, featuring in the Old Gold’s final ten fixtures predominantly at left-back, and scoring the winner against West Midlands neighbours Aston Villa earlier this month. Now, his form has been recognised by new Portugal manager Roberto Martinez, who has called up the 24-year-old, alongside Jose Sa, Nelson Semedo and Ruben Neves, for Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Bosnia and Iceland in June.
On earning his senior call up
“It's a dream come true, and we will see what happens if I can play. It's always good to have news like this, it's things like this that we've been working hard for. It will be good, and I'll keep working hard.
“It's all happened quickly but with the hard work I've put in on the training ground and on the pitch, from the first day until the end, I hoped this would happen.”

On first hearing from Martinez
“He was first in contact with me when he came to the Wolves training ground to speak to all the Portuguese guys. It was when he first got the job and he was just introducing himself, nothing more.”
On ending with defeat to Arsenal
“This was not the way we prepared the game. We didn't want to go there and lose like that. For sure, we wanted to do better on the pitch and unfortunately, we couldn't.
“Now it's all done, and we need to go for our holidays and recover well, to come back stronger.”
