The summer of international football for Wolves’ first-team is over, after Dexter Lembikisa and Jamaica bowed out of the Gold Cup.
The Reggae Boyz enjoyed a ride to the semi-finals of the competition, but in the early hours of Thursday morning their campaign was ended by Mexico, in a game which saw the Wolves full-back earn his seventh international cap.
Jamaica, who’d progressed through the group stages and beat Guatemala in the last eight, started with five Premier League players in their 11, but Lembikisa had to make do with a place on the bench.
Two Mexican goals in the opening half hour made it an uphill task for Jamaica manager Heimir Hallgrimsson, who brought Lembikisa off the bench on 51 minutes.
The 19-year-old helped solidify Jamaica, but in injury time Mexico put the game to bed with the third goal, ensuring the Wolves man would return home, but enriched from the experience and a cluster of international caps to his name.
The Mexicans, who have done without the injured Raul Jimenez, for the competition, will now face Panama in the early hours of Monday morning, after they defeated the USA on penalties.
