Wolves continued their pre-season preparations with victory in their first official match of 2023/24 as Pedro Neto's goal proved to be the difference in their meeting with FC Porto.
Following three behind-closed-doors training matches, which each increased in duration and intensity, Julen Lopetegui's side played their first game of pre-season in front of fans at the Estadio da Belo Vista in the Portuguese Algarve.
With his whole squad now out in Portugal for their latest training camp, the head coach has been casting an eye over his players as the preparations ramp up ahead of the opening Premier League fixture in three weeks time.
Having returned to the group after representing Portugal in the U21 Euros this summer, Neto opened his account for the season when he turned the ball home at the far post following a good move by Matheus Nunes, who got behind the Porto defence before firing a ball across the face of goal for his fellow countryman.
The game also saw a first appearance for Matt Doherty back in gold and black following his recent return to the club following three years away, while Fabio Silva - fresh from reuniting with the team after his 12 months on loan - got a few minutes under his belt as he came on as a second-half substitute for Matheus Cunha.
In a meeting where chances came few and far between, it was the visitors who had the best of the opportunities after the break, but Jose Sa stayed strong between his sticks to keep his former club from finding an equaliser.
