Hugo Bueno believes Wolves’ confident performance against Stade Rennais displayed the hard work put in during pre-season by Julen Lopetegui’s group.
The Old Gold signed off ahead of the new season with an impressive showing, which culminated in a 3-1 victory, and it’s the latest positive sign from the group, which begin their Premier League season at Old Trafford next Monday. Bueno, now established in the first-team group, came off the bench to help Wolves to victory, and he reflected on the performance and summer, before turning his attention to competitive football.
On signing off with a win
“It was brilliant to be honest – it’s nice to finish like this. We’ve worked really hard, and I think we showed it today, all of the players, so we’re really happy.
“It’s important to finish like this, to give confidence to the team. We know we have good players, so we just have to try to play like this the next game and hopefully get a good result.”
On a summer of work
“I think we’ll assess it really well. We knew it was going to be tough, people going out, but we focus on working every day. I think we saw a really good performance and we have to keep going like this.
“We’ve been working on knowing how to play with each other, all the players. The offensive passages and also to be aggressive in defence. We just have to keep going like this.”
On feeling at home in the first-team
“Of course, it feels different, but I’m focusing on the daily work, it doesn’t matter about the past. I’m just focused on giving my best to the team and I’m really happy.
“It’s easier with teammates like this, who try to improve every day. I’m learning every day from the manager and hopefully I’ll become a better player.”
On building towards Man United
“Work – that’s the only thing we’re thinking of. We know it’s going to be tough, in a really tough stadium, but I think we have a really good chance to go there and put in a good performance.
“I think all the squad is really motivated for the new season. We just have to keep going like this and hopefully we can achieve really good things.”
