Fraser | 'It was all towards a moment like this'

Nathan Fraser has expressed his joy at scoring on his senior Wolves debut in front of the south bank on Tuesday evening, hailing it as the ‘best day’ he’s ever had.

The 18-year-old striker was introduced in the 62nd minute of the Old Gold’s 5-0 victory in the Carabao Cup against Blackpool, with Fraser making quite the impact as he assisted the fourth and then rounded off the scoring himself with the fifth. As a player who has risen through the ranks at the club since a young age, Fraser was unable to hide his delight and explained the moment as one he’s been working towards for a long time.

On a dream debut

“It feels like I’ve been working towards this moment for ages. I’ve scored in pre-season, but scoring for Wolves in a competitive game is the best day I’ve ever had.

“It still doesn’t feel real but when I wake up it will probably sink in.”

On working for this moment

“There’s been a lot of constant hard work. There’s been ups and downs but I’ve knuckled down since I got my scholarship.

“I’ve worked hard throughout this two years and it feels like it was all towards a moment like this. Hopefully I can get a few more opportunities.”

On playing for Wolves

“At the start of the season you never know where you’re going to end up. You’re either going to get the opportunity to be on the bench or go on loan, but my aim has been to play for Wolves and that’s what I want to do.”

On his assist

“The manager said to make those runs in the channels, he saw there was space in there when Fabio (Silva) or Pablo (Sarabia) drop in.

“He said if the space is there, then make that run. I made the run and thought I was offside, but I kept running heard Matt (Doherty) shout through the middle and I’ve just passed it to where the call was coming from – thankfully he scored.”

On his goal

“I just thought that I’ve got time in here, need to get my shot off and see where it goes. I got my shot off and it’s took a deflection, but I don’t really care what happens – I just want to score. I’m happy.

“When I saw it going I thought ‘no way, no way’ and then you see it hit the back of the net. It was more relief. You want to get a goal so for me, I want to score no matter if it’s with the first-team or wherever. When it went in, it was just joy and happiness.”

On his family in the crowd

“I’ve got my girlfriend, my mum, my brother and my girlfriend’s family as well. It’s a good moment to be able to share it with my family and it will be a good night to see them after the game.”
