Goalkeeper Jose Sa has committed his future to Wolves, signing a new four-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.
The Portuguese has now entered his third season at Molineux, having provided a reliable figure between the sticks over the past two campaigns, since his move from Olympiacos in the summer of 2021.
That first season following his move from Athens proved memorable for Sa, who kept an impressive 11 clean sheets, resulting in him being named Player of the Season by both supporters and his colleagues after less than 12 months in England.
Last year Sa bettered his clean sheet record with 12 and made crucial penalty saves against Fulham and Nottingham Forest at Molineux, earning his side important points in their battle against the Premier League drop.
A member of the 2022 Portugal World Cup squad last winter, Sa has retained the number one shirt this term and his sensational stop against Everton earned Wolves three important points and the stopper a nomination for the Premier League Save of the Month award.
Sporting director Matt Hobbs said: “We’re excited that Jose will be part of this next stage and cycle we’ll be going through, and he’ll play an important role in that, on and off the pitch. He’s excited by what we’re trying do, but also understands that people like him, in his position, are really important for us.
“It’s something that he’s earnt. He’s been a really important player to us and a leader off the pitch and is improving all the time. It’s a reward for his hard work primarily, but also shows his importance to us.
“He can see where the club are going and what we’re looking to do over the next few windows, so he was excited by that also. He’s a winner, is someone who shoulders responsibility, and wants us to move forward.”
