Pedro Neto has credited Gary O’Neil for giving him his confidence back after the winger played another starring role in Old Gold, this time to help Wolves to three points against Manchester City.
The Portuguese has had a torrid two years with different injury problems, but since the arrival of the head coach in the summer, Neto has seen a return to the form in which he displayed during his first couple of campaigns as a Wolves player, playing a vital role in his side’s opening goal before running into the ground for the team to see our a first Molineux victory of the season.
On beating the champions
“First of all, it was a hard game. I think the team knew after the Luton game what they needed to do after the tough second half that we had there and today we came here with the mentality that we had to get the three points.
“We knew that it was really important for the team to win this game, and we came here, we did our job and we are really happy.”
On utilising the counter attack
“It’s the truth. Up front we have very good players. Hee Chan [Hwang], Cunha and me, we knew we would have the opportunity to go on the counter.
“We knew that 70 per cent or 80 per cent of the time we wouldn’t have the ball. To be honest, we were playing against the best team in the world, but we came here with all the hard work we’d done during the week, and we took the three points.”
On producing another impressive performance
“I enjoyed myself, but the team says all the time that when I get the ball, to do my job. But I always try to help the team, because the most important thing is that we got the three points.
“In the end, the goal didn’t count for me, but I’m really pleased.”

On having belief in themselves
“To be honest, in the changing room we said that we have to believe it. We knew that it would be a hard game, but it could be the turning point for us.
“We were the first team to beat Man City this season, so we were really happy.”
On overcoming injury worries
“It’s true, I had a couple of years, the last two, but I needed the confidence which the coach has given to me from the beginning since he arrived.
“I’m really happy to help the team, but we have to continue working.”
