Maximilian Kilman says Wolves should have handled the pressure Sheffield United put them under in the second half on Saturday, even before the controversial late penalty.
Having impressed in the opening period, Wolves struggled to maintain those levels after the break, and were hurt by a lively Blades showing and a late penalty call. Wolves looked to have salvaged at least a point from their afternoon when Jean-Ricner Bellegarde equalised in the 89th minute, but the late twist left captain Kilman frustrated with how the Old Gold managed the second period.
On the unbeaten run ending
“It’s very disappointing. We came into the game and started the first half really well. Second half they put a lot of pressure on us, and we didn’t control that pressure, and in the last moments we need to be better and see out the game.”
On a frustrating second half
“They came out much hungrier and were fighting for everything, but we needed to match that and there was lots of spells where we didn’t, so we made it more difficult for ourselves.”
On getting back into it
“I thought when Bellegarde scored we’d see out the game – 1-1 and maybe get a chance at the end. Unfortunately, the penalty at the end, it didn’t look like a penalty from my view.
“We were all disappointed with that happened, we have to be better, regardless of if it’s a penalty or not.”
On responding properly
“We have to bounce back. We have to go back to training and focus because we’ve got a big game coming up next weekend.”
