Kilman | 'This is O'Neil's time'

Maximilian Kilman says this is Gary O’Neil’s “time” in Premier League management and insists the head coach has been brilliant since his arrival at Molineux.

Arriving on the eve of the new season, O’Neil has breathed new life into the Old Gold, who head to Fulham on Monday night with just one defeat from their past seven Premier League outings. Kilman, O’Neil’s captain, has once again been an ever-present at the back for Wolves and he praised his head coach for the way he tactically sets up the team, as the Old Gold prepare for a busy December schedule.

On enjoying life under O’Neil

“When Lopetegui left everything was a bit up in the air, nobody really knew what was happening, and Gary came in four days before the start of the season and since then he’s done an incredible job.

“How he set us up tactically against the top teams and his man management has been brilliant. Credit to him and his staff, since they’ve come in, they’ve been really good, coming in at such a difficult time.

“You could say Gary hasn’t had much experience managing in the Premier League, but this is his time and he’s showing it, and he’s been excellent. Tactically, how he sets us up for every game has been really good and I think it gives us the best opportunity to get a good result from the game.”

On heading to Fulham

“Last year we struggled away from home, but we’re coming in quite confident and we need to make sure we do our best and pick up as many points as we can. We need to make sure we’re ready. We have to go there, do our best and put in a big performance.”

On making Molineux a fortress

“Since I’ve been at Wolves, coming to Molineux has always been tough for other teams and I think we’re showing it a bit this season. We’ve had some good results against some top teams at home, so hopefully we can continue and make it a fortress.”

On eyeing a Neto return

“I’m hoping he’s back soon, of course. I think everyone at the club is, because of course he’s a massive player and you can see how he’s been kicking on this season. He’s still top assister in the league, so of course we want him back as soon as possible, but he’s progressing well. He thinks he’s ahead of schedule, so hopefully he’ll be back as soon as possible and back helping us.”

On not taking anything for granted

“We don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves, we have to take game by game and hopefully things can progress, but we don’t want to look too far ahead because there’s still a lot to play for, a lot of difficult games, so we want to take it game by game and see where it ends.”
