From early on this season, Tommy Doyle knew Wolves was the best place for the next stage of his career and that will continue after the summer, with the midfielder set to sign permanently on 1st July.
The 22-year-old has spent this season on loan from Manchester City and offered different strengths to Gary O’Neil’s midfield during his 30 appearances in Old Gold so far. When the new campaign begins, he’ll be a permanent Wolves player and now his future is sorted, Doyle is ready to kick on and make himself an even more important cog in the Old Gold machine next term.
On signing permanently for Wolves
“It’s amazing. I’m really happy. I found out not too long ago what’s going to happen and it’s obviously very exciting for me, having enjoyed this season so far, and I’m looking forward to trying to better what we’ve done next season.
“I’ve known for a little while that there were talks, and the other day it was more official. I’ve enjoyed it here, everyone’s been really great with me, the manager, the staff and especially the lads. It’ll be good to battle in the league again with them next season.
“They’re a great set of lads. It’s a very driven group of lads who want to achieve, lads who want to push each other to become better. There’s a lot of things individually and as a team I want to do next season, and this is the best place of me.”
On his conversations with the club
“They’d said they were happy with what I’ve done this season and, for me, I feel there’s a lot more I can give. We’re going in the right direction as a club, we’re progressing, so it’s exciting to be part of that journey.
“You can see the way we’ve played this season, some of our football’s been really good. We’ve been very unlucky with injuries, and it’s died out a bit the last couple of games which has been frustrating, but that’s something we’ll learn from.
“We’ve been hit by many challenges, and I’d like to think we’ve come through them. It shows the togetherness of the group, how strong we are, staff and fans included, so it’ll be good to take that into next season and hopefully we can better the season we’ve had now.”
On leaving City
“I’ve had many, many years as a City player, coming through the academy and eventually playing for the first-team, and I take great pride in what I’ve done for that club. It’s nice to close that chapter and open up the new one with Wolves and try to progress as much as I can and keep enjoying it.
“I wanted to have somewhere where I’m stable, essentially somewhere I enjoy, and I enjoy it here. It’ll be good to do it all again next season.”
On his relationship with the supporters
“Everything we do is for the fans. We go out there and give 110 per cent and try to win for them. Their support is massive for us, and it’ll be brilliant to relive it next season and hopefully we can make more memories together.”
On his family links to Wolves
“I remember him [his grandad Glyn] saying when I was younger about the team Wolves had when he was a kid – it was a great side. Now I’m here I remember him saying. So, it’s obviously a great honour to represent this club and the shirt, and I’m looking forward to going again next season.”
On his excitement for next season
“It’s just playing as regularly as I can, cementing a spot in the team and becoming a main player in the team. Hopefully, maybe an England call up would be nice. There’s still a lot more I need to do to focus on those things. Hopefully I’ll have a good summer, work hard and be ready to go again when we come back.”
