With Wolves' 2024/25 Premier League fixture schedule set to be confirmed this time next week, here is everything you need to know ahead of the new season’s calendar announcement.
#1 When are fixtures being released?
Wolves’ fixtures will be released on wolves.co.uk, the Wolves App and across the club’s social media channels at 9am on Tuesday 18th June, and can be found by clicking here following that time.
Make sure you never miss a change to Wolves’ 2024/25 schedule by syncing the fixture list to your calendar here, which will update automatically. There is also the option to sync the women’s first-team, under-21s and under-18s upcoming matches as well. However, dates and kick-off times of matches will be subject to change.
#2 What are the key dates?
With Euro 2024 and the 2024 Copa America taking place until mid-July, the 2024/25 Premier League campaign will begin a week later than it did last season, to give players competing for their countries at those competitions the chance to get an extra seven days rest, and finish a week later.
The season will get underway on the weekend of 17th August 2024 and will run until the final day on Sunday 25th May 2025, where all of the final round of matches will kick-off simultaneously - usually at 4pm.
The popular Boxing Day and New Year’s fixtures will also go ahead as normal, but in a change for this season, and in a bid to address the congested schedule, more rest time will be given to sides over three of the festive match rounds, with no club playing within 60 hours of another match.
Consisting of 33 weekend matches, four midweek fixtures and one Bank Holiday game, the 2024/25 schedule does not include a winter break this time round, while unlike Wolves' Christmas Eve fixture against Chelsea last season, there will be no game on 24th December this term.
Regarding cup competitions, Wolves will enter the Carabao Cup at the second round which runs until the final on 23rd February 2025 and the FA Cup in the third round, which will conclude in the final on 17th May 2025.
#3 Who will Wolves be facing?
Having secured their place in the Premier League for a seventh consecutive season, Wolves will face 16 of the same opponents as last season. But following Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United's relegation from the division the Old Gold will now face home and away fixtures against Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton.
Wolves have already faced the Foxes and the Saints on numerous occasions in the top-flight over the past six years, with their most recent meetings coming in 2022/23, but it will be the first time they would have faced the Tractor Boys in the competition.
Following their relegation into the second tier in 2002, having spent the previous two years in the top flight, Ipswich spent the next 18 years in the division, before being relegated into League One ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. But they secured their place back in the Premier League following successive promotions, while also knocking Wolves out of last season's Carabao Cup.
#4 Which games will be shown on TV?
Only the first weekend of fixtures will have been decided by next Tuesday. All weekend fixtures will be released with Saturday 3pm kick-off times while midweek games are scheduled for Tuesday at 7.45pm, before the TV picks for August and September are confirmed closer to the start of the season.
Matches this season will once again be broadcast live by Sky Sports, TNT Sports and Amazon Prime Video. Following the fixture list being announced, those three Premier League broadcasters will then decide what matches they would like to show.
Similarly to last season, this campaign is due to see 128 matches broadcast on Sky, 52 on TNT and 20 matches will be available on Amazon. (A new deal is due to start ahead of the 2025/26 season which will see more than 200 matches shown on Sky Sports!)
#5 Can we figure out the fixtures from previous seasons?
Not really, as compiling the fixture list is the result of a meticulous and painstaking process that lasts almost half a year and involves the scheduling of 2,036 matches across the top four divisions – which you can read about here, but they do often throw up some similarities.
Wolves have started all but one of their six previous Premier League campaigns away from home, with Molineux only opening their fixture schedule in 2018/19 against Everton. Since then, the Old Gold have faced Leicester twice as well as Sheffield United, Leeds and Manchester United all on the road.
All six of Wolves’ final matches of the season have been against a team from the ‘big six’ and just one of those has been at Molineux – a 2-1 loss to Manchester United in 2020/21. Three of the other five have seen the side travel to Anfield to face Liverpool, while the other two were fixtures away at Chelsea and Arsenal.
Wolves have also been scheduled to face title-chasers Liverpool and Manchester City back-to-back on several occasions. The first of these was in December 2019 as Wolves followed up the incredible fightback win over City at Molineux before heading to Anfield less than 43 hours later, December 2021 also saw Wolves face both teams inside the same week, and in 2022/23 it was due to happen twice, before the Liverpool visit was postponed. Last season, Wolves' faced City and Liverpool in consecutive home games in September, before facing both teams in consecutive away games in May.
