Euro 2024 | Wolves trio to get campaign underway

With Euro 2024 already well underway, there will be Wolves interest in today’s fixtures as Pedro Neto, Jose Sa, Nelson Semedo and the rest of the Portugal side face their first group game.

The trio are all part of Roberto Martinez’s squad for this summer’s tournament in Germany, with Portugal in Group F, and they will get their campaign up and running this evening.

Portugal’s Euro 2024 schedule

Smile! Wolves’ Euro 2024 portraits

With Euro 2024 in full swing, the three members of Gary O’Neil’s squad who are out with Portugal in Germany will be dreaming of lifting the famous trophy for their country.

As well as all the pre-tournament friendly action and training camps Neto, Sa and Semedo have been a part of, the trio also had to participate in photoshoots to capture them proudly representing their nations colours and create some eye-catching visuals.

Take a look at the results in the gallery below.

Squad numbers set for Germany

Wolves’ three players at Euro 2024 have all been allocated shirt numbers which they will proudly wear in Germany this summer.

Number 22 when wearing the gold and black of his club, Semedo has been handed the number two shirt for Portugal after their 26-man squad was confirmed a fortnight ago.

Although Wolves’ number one, Sa will don the number 12 for his country, while Neto will wear the number 25.

From the former Old Gold players out in Germany, Patricio is number one, Nunes has been given 16, Neves will wear 18, Jota is 21 and Vitinha will wear 23.

The price is right for Wolves’ Euro stars

UEFA’s fantasy game for the European Championship has launched, complete with valuations of the three Wolves representatives at this summer’s competition.

Fans can get involved by selecting their teams from the nations on show in Germany, and similar to Fantasy Premier League, players have to pick a 15-man squad and have €100 million to spend.

If you were to pick the Wolves trio in your team, it would set you back €17m, with Sa and Semedo costing €5m each, while Neto – who is listed as a midfielder in the game – is priced at €7m.

Euro experience could prove key

Ahead of the tournament getting underway on Friday evening, Portugal were fourth favourites to lift the trophy for the second time in their history – behind England, France and hosts Germany – with odds around 9/2.

A perennial later stage side, Portugal have reached the knockout stages in every Euros since 1996, having also reached the semi-final on three occasions and the final twice, winning it all in 2016.

None of the current Wolves players who are out in Germany this summer with Portugal were present in the 2016 team, but Semedo played the full 90 minutes of his country’s opening two group games of Euro 2020 – which took place in summer 2021 – before coming off injured in the 2-2 draw against France, which put him out of the rest of the tournament.

Sa wasn’t called up by Portugal three years ago, while Neto missed out on a place in the competition due to injury, so all three will hope they can have a tournament to remember this summer.
