Marbella Diaries | Day two

Wolves’ first full day out in Marbella saw Gary O’Neil’s side get down to work with double training sessions out on the grass.

In Spain’s warm climate, the Old Gold were put to work, with new signing Pedro Lima, Rodrigo Gomes and Jorgen Strand Larsen all involved in the sessions.

Taking in lots of liquid and breaks in the shade to deal with the temperatures, O’Neil’s group stepped up their exertions following the start of pre-season back at Compton Park in Wolverhampton.

The previous night, the majority of the squad watched Spain’s Euro 2024 semi-final win over France, including Spaniards Hugo Bueno and Pablo Sarabia.

Word from the camp

Having returned from a groin problem which ruined his end to last season, Craig Dawson is feeling positive about being back around the group in Marbella.

Dawson said: “It’s great to get away and to use the facilities out here. It’s great for the group to be together, to spend some time together, and hopefully we can get a lot of work done and prepare well for the season.

“Football’s changed a lot since I started. Pre-seasons used to be full on boot camps, but now it’s a lot better. There’s a lot more sports science and they’re not quite as tough as they used to be, whether that’s experience or sports science has gone a little bit soft, I don’t know. Pre-season is something I enjoy doing. My early pre-seasons used to be running camps, but now it’s a lot better. I enjoy pre-season, it’s a good time to get ready and be fit.”
