Doyle | 'I’m ready to crack on now'

Tommy Doyle described being a permanent Wolves player for this pre-season as an “amazing feeling”.

The midfielder is taking part in his first pre-season with the club, having joined on loan after the start of last season. Following an impressive campaign in old gold, Doyle’s move was made permanent, and now he’s enjoying the build-up to the new season, even if the conditions out in Marbella are incredibly challenging.

On the camp in Marbella

“It’s been good. Obviously, it’s roasting, so that makes it a little bit more difficult, especially for someone like me. I’ve enjoyed it so far. We’ve had a good laugh but have been training hard.

“Probably in normal circumstances, it wouldn’t be too difficult, but with the weather here – people can probably tell hot it is – it makes it more difficult for us. This is what will benefit us going into the season, you’ve got to get it done and keep working as hard as possible.”

On returning as a permanent player

“It’s an amazing feeling. As soon as the season finished, it was something I wanted to get done straight away. I had a little break to recharge the batteries, but once it was ready to be announced, it was a nice feeling. I’m ready to crack on now, we’ve got a bit of time left in pre-season, but I can’t wait for the season.

“The way I was treated and the way the lads welcomed me into the squad, I always felt part of the group, which was a really nice feeling and credit to them, really. Now I’m here, now I’m a Wolves player permanently which is good, and I’m really happy.”

On watching the Euros in Spain

“Everyone’s been watching them in separate little spaces, I’ve been with ‘Kingy’ and ‘Doc’ and we’ve been watching together, but at the weekend we’ll probably watch it all together, the English and Spanish lads, and have a laugh.

“They’re [Sarabia and Bueno] confident Spain will win, but hopefully England can pull through. It’s another final and they’ve been there before, so I don’t think it will be anything new. We [him and Anthony Gordon] speak and lot and it’s amazing for him to be out there. Hopefully he can play a part in it.

“You see how enjoyable it looks and what it is to be part of it. I’ve been part of the youth teams and been involved in a winning Euros team, so if I could get to the senior squad, that would be an amazing feeling.”

On excitement building for the season

“I think everybody’s ready. Sometimes with these camps, everyone wants to get them over and done with, and crack on with the season and I think everyone’s definitely feeling that now.

“We’ve got a game on Monday, so we’re building towards that. We’ve got a few team bonding sessions to have a laugh and bring us all closer. More training, more hard work, and hopefully we can have a nice game on Monday.”
