Marbella Diaries | Day six

As is the norm the day before a match, training was shorter than usual on Sunday, as Gary O’Neil prepared his group for their first pre-season training match.

The Old Gold will face Serie A side Como 1907 on Monday evening at their Marbella base, providing the first opportunity for gametime for the squad.

Some tactical work was the order of the day on Sunday morning, as well as more running drills. Before the session, the players also had the opportunity to meet some supporters.

The afternoon was then about relaxing and recharging batteries, with some members of the squad taking to the pool to cool off in the warm temperatures.

Come the evening, the squad watched the Euro 2024 final as a group, with Hugo Bueno and Pablo Sarabia the happiest as Spain edged past England.

Word from the camp

For Tommy Doyle, this is his first pre-season trip with Wolves and he explained the feeling of being part of the group as a permanent Old Gold player.

Doyle said: “It’s an amazing feeling. As soon as the season finished, it was something I wanted to get done straight away. I had a little break to recharge the batteries, but once it was ready to be announced, it was a nice feeling. I’m ready to crack on now, we’ve got a bit of time left in pre-season, but I can’t wait for the season.

“The way I was treated and the way the lads welcomed me into the squad, I always felt part of the group, which was a really nice feeling and credit to them, really. Now I’m here, now I’m a Wolves player permanently which is good, and I’m really happy.”
