Cunha looks to USA trip

While Matheus Cunha has tunnel vision for the start of the Premier League, he’s excited to be back in Florida for pre-season.

The Brazilian previously visited Fort Lauderdale as a youngster, and is now back as a Wolves player, preparing for a new season. He bagged his first goal of the summer against Bristol City at the weekend, before departing for America, where he expects three tough tests, including against his former employers RB Leipzig.

On heading to the States

“We have a lot of good things to do there. We’re going for pre-season, so it will be training, and we need to manage it in a perfect way.

“I went to Florida before with my family and visited Disney. I’ll love being there, to remember being a kid, but now it will be a different experience. I hope we’ll train very well there and play the games – I hope we can show people our quality.”

On a strong Brazilian presence in Florida

“It’s crazy – there’s a lot of Brazilians there, but not only Brazilians, a lot of Latin people because in Florida and Miami a lot of people speak Spanish and Portuguese. I hope all the people of Spanish and Portuguese culture come to watch the games. I hope there’s a lot of Brazilians there and if people come with a flag, I’ll maybe go with a shirt.”

On focusing on the football

“The first focus is to do the best for pre-season, but everybody’s talking about Miami, so I think we do some good things there.

“We’re playing amazing clubs – we always have good battles with clubs from the Premier League and Leipzig in Germany are big, and hopefully we’ll get some good results. It’s the second or third time I’ve played them since leaving, but there’s a lot of people I like so I hope I’ll meet them again.

“It will be my first experience playing in a non-football stadium. It’s another culture, it’s good to learn, and playing in big American stadiums, it’s a show. We have a good group and we need to be ready.”
