Nelson Semedo says he’s arrived back to a Wolves group in good shape and is now focused on hitting the group running.
The 30-year-old linked back up with his teammates on Sunday, alongside Jose Sa, Pedro Neto and Joao Gomes, following their international exploits over the summer. Semedo trained for the first time in Miami on Monday, and after keeping tabs on pre-season from afar in recent weeks, he believes the group can do good things during the season ahead.
On being back in the camp
“After the Euros I had three weeks off, so refreshed mentally and physically, ready to go again. It was my first training on Monday morning, and I felt good. I saw the team really well. I saw the game against West Ham and the guys are doing really well, so let’s keep going and do great things this season.
“It was a hard session. The guys are doing really well, I’ve heard they’ve been working a lot the last weeks, but I’m ready to keep going, to work, to be ready physically, and play some minutes.”
On being used to returning late
“Fortunately, I’ve been called up for a few tournaments with the national team. Usually, I come late, even last season I came late because we had two games with the national team, so I came later.
“The travel is easier with your friends [Sa and Neto] and I was sleeping for six hours, so they didn’t have my company, but it’s better to come with your teammates and it was good. I’m really excited. It’s my second time here [in the US]. On Sunday I had a little bit of time to see the city and the weather is hot, but it’s really nice.”

On keeping in touch with Wolves
“They gave us links to see the game. The West Ham game was late – midnight in Portugal – but I was awake because I wanted to come here without jetlag, so I didn’t sleep until 4 or 5am, so it was nice.
“I wanted to start on the 19th to train a little bit, but Mark [Piros-Read] told me to start on 22nd. I did a couple of sessions. You’re on holiday, but you see videos of your teammates training and seeing the game, so you’re on holiday, but you’re always thinking about the club.”
On the Euros experience
“The Euros were really nice. I’m always proud to represent my country, especially in a tournament like that one, so it was nice to share the pitch, to share good moments with my teammates, but I’m focused on Wolves now and I’m ready to go.
“I played every single game, so it was nice to be called up to play. It’s pay off to your work. I’m happy with what I did, but I’m especially happy about what the team did and hopefully we carry on like this.”
On meeting the new lads
“I trained with Rodrigo in the national team, when we came back from the little break before the Euros camp. It was good to see him again. Pedro, I had a good catch up with him and he seems a good guy and also I spoke with Jorgen, and they look really well, and from what I saw, they’re doing really well and are ready to help the team.”
