Strand Larsen | 'We're doing the right things'

Debutant Jorgen Strand Larsen says the chances Wolves created, despite defeat to Arsenal, show they are moving in the right direction.

The Gunners scored in either half to win the game on Saturday, but between the goals Wolves created big opportunities, with Strand Larsen the unluckiest of the lot after his strong header was brilliantly saved by David Raya. Despite the loss, the Norwegian, on his first Old Gold outing, said Wolves have plenty to take from the performance when they return to Molineux next weekend.

On his debut at the Emirates

“You can't get any tougher than this, to be honest. Emirates Stadium, first game of the season, Arsenal away, they had two good seasons now in a row, fighting for the for the league title. So, you can't imagine a tougher start, but I think we did well in moments of the game.

“You know that they will get chances. You know that they will score goals. But I think we stayed in the game for a long time. That was our game plan, and if we had some luck, maybe I would be on the scoresheet and we’d have a 1-1 today. That's unlucky, but shows the quality of the Arsenal players.”

On his chance in the first half

“Sometimes as a striker you have it in your mind, this one’s in, this one you’ve hit well, but it goes so quick so you can’t really see the ball when you touch it, you're like spinning around four or five times. When I hit it, it should have gone in, but shows the quality of Raya. That's a shame for me and for us, but I’m just going to work on that, and for sure it will come.”

On other chances for the team

“We had a few today. The most important thing is that we take it with us, that we got to these chances. We do it for a reason. It was a good cross from Channy in the first half, and then good pressing from us to win the ball when Cunha got the chance. Nine out of 10 times, both of them will go in. It's unlucky. I think that we need to take with us that we're doing the right things, and the goals will come. This is one of the toughest opponents to meet in the league.”

On the timing of the second goal

“Yeah, I think we had some momentum at that point, from the second half, we came out a bit, bit like that, but after 10 minutes, we got back into the game, and I felt like we had some momentum.

“Difficult to get real momentum, but some of it, and we could have scored, but we had some few half chances, but then when they scored it was 2-0, it's going to be tough. We knew that, but we're going to take the positives with us.”
