Strand Larsen | ‘We’re disappointed and ashamed’

Jorgen Strand Larsen could not hide his disappointment that the dream of scoring his first goal for Wolves would turn into a Premier League nightmare against Chelsea at Molineux.

Having got his side back on level terms inside first-half added time, the Norwegian striker felt Wolves could kick on after the break, but four unanswered goals for the Blues saw the visitors head back to west London with all three points.

But with Wolves now set to turn their attention to the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening, Strand Larsen believes the players need to stand up and be counted and show the supporters what this team really can be.

On defeat to Chelsea

“We’re disappointed and ashamed, to be honest. This isn't us. We've been working seven weeks now, and it’s been really good, so it's disappointing to be in this position.

“When you give away those goals against such a good team, they will score.”

On second half collapse

“It's all about small details. I’m not sure what happened, because it goes very quick. It's a lot of goals to concede in a few minutes. But it can’t happen.

“As soon as we concede one, we need to get ourselves together and do our thing properly.”

On players taking responsibility

“[The six goals] are on all of us. It's not just the defenders, it's not just the goalkeeper, it's all of us – all 11 players.

“I'm really disappointed because we did a good first half, still sloppy at times, but the second half was a disgrace, to be honest.”

On scoring his first Wolves goal

“If we go on just the first half, I was really enjoying being here and it’s a good atmosphere. The team has a lot of qualities and that's why we're so ashamed today, because this is not us.

“We know we can do better, and for seven weeks, we've been doing really well. I know this team will get back on the horse again, and we will win matches, but today was not it, and this cannot be us ever again.”

On bouncing back in midweek

“I'm sad today because it was a good first half, I got my goal, and it was supposed to be a good day, but it will come in new matches.

“We have a new match again on Wednesday, so we're going to be ashamed today, and it's getting back on the horse.”
