Doyle | 'We're ready to fight and ready to show some passion'

Tommy Doyle felt there were plenty of positives for Wolves to take from their Carabao Cup second round victory over Burnley at Molineux, but insists the team needs to take this momentum into the weekend.

Wolves booked their place in the third round tie and an away fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion thanks to Goncalo Guedes’ brace, and the midfielder is pleased many of the Old Gold players on the pitch, who have not experienced many minutes so far this season, proved their worth to Gary O’Neil ahead of Saturday’s Premier League visit to Nottingham Forest.

On getting through in the cup

“It was really good, two good goals and a clean sheet, and a lot of more positives from the last couple of games, which is good. It was massively important to get the winning feeling back. I think that was one of the main messages in the dressing room.

“Obviously, we've had a tough start, so I think it was important going into the weekend that we got a win under our belt and a good performance. We have to take that now into the league, push on, and put in some good performances.”

On two well-worked team goals

“Everything we do is what we've worked on. It's been a tough start, but things will come out, and defensively, we will tighten up a little bit.

“I think we did that very well tonight, with no goals conceded, but the main thing now is we have to take that into the league, and we have to improve.”

On scoring a second straight after half-time

“I think it killed their momentum a little bit. One of the messages at half-time was to go out and start strong again. Doing that and it was a great team move, with Guedes finishing it off. It was a great finish.

“We need more of that and there will be more to come. Bring that on to Saturday.”

On the whole squad stepping up

“Everyone is ready to step up when they are needed, 100 per cent. Obviously, some lads haven't had as much minutes in the league, which has been frustrating, but we have to be there and we have to be ready when called upon and show to the manager that we're ready to go.

“I think there's quite a few performances tonight from lads that were there to say, ‘Listen, I'm ready,’ which is the most important thing, and I think the gaffer will love that. The lads are ready to go and get that competition raring.

“The main message for me is we need to take that into the weekend and bring that into the league because especially from the Chelsea game, which was miles off it from us, we have to show more, and that starts from tonight.”

On taking momentum into the league

“All we need to do is win games. We showed last season that we can win games and we can be a great team. Don't get me wrong, the start is tough, having Arsenal away and Chelsea at home, but they are still teams that we think we can go toe-to-toe with, and we hope Sunday’s game was a freak result.

“Bring it on into the league and show that we're ready to fight, ready to show some passion and really push on as a group, which we will do, because we have the talent, 100 per cent.

“We have some great players, some great lads, some top individuals, so we need to bring that all together and we should have a good season.”
