Lemina | 'They had the luck in the second half and we didn't'

Mario Lemina insists the Wolves players are going to be working hard on the training ground as they give their all to earn their first win of the Premier League season.

Having suffered a second successive home loss to start the season against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, after Lemina had put his team ahead, he believes luck played a big part in the defeat.

However, the captain has faith that his team will bounce back quickly in the Carabao Cup at Brighton in midweek before heading across the West Midlands to Aston Villa next weekend.

On coming up short to Newcastle

“I don't know what to say. We had the chance to score more, but we didn’t, and they scored from far. They had luck, the first one has been flicked by our defender and the game changed.

“I'm really unhappy. We need to get back to work immediately, but we’re committed to what we need to do and be resilient.”

On conceding unfortunate goals

“Sam didn’t have much chance with either goal and sometimes they can go like that. But they had the luck in the second half and we didn't.

“But we still had chances to score, but we didn't. We need to change this losing mentality now and get back to work.”

On trying to take positives from defeat

“Of course there are still positives to take from today. We fought a lot, and it’s not about the performance of the players, sometimes it’s more about luck, and we didn't have it today.

“But we need to create more chances to have luck. But we're going to get back to work and we’re going to really work hard and get three points in that game.”

On two home losses to start the season

“In the first half against Chelsea, we were really good, and after, I don't know what happened, but I think in this game, we did well. We had good chances to win at the half-time, 2-0, but we didn't.

“And in the second half, they get the control of the game, and we dropped too much in our half and they scored. Congratulations to them, but I'm not going to talk about them, I just want to talk about my team, and we need to work really hard to get the three points now.”
