Bellegarde | 'We know what we are capable of'

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde believes it is just a matter of time before Wolves pick up their first win of the season after the team’s positive performances this campaign have not converted into three points.

The Frenchman has started every Premier League match under Gary O’Neil so far this term, and with a trip to the Gtech Community Stadium coming up on Saturday afternoon, the game brings happy memories for Bellegarde, who scored in the same fixture last season – firing in the fourth goal of a festive period rout over the Bees.

On performances not matching results

“We’re doing very good things on the pitch, but we have to remember that the team has not finished to build itself yet. Andre came in late, and some other players came in as well after season had already started, so these players haven’t had much time to settle in, so we can play all together.

“We need to improve the way we play from the start of the match to the end, with the high level which is needed in the Premier League, but we have been doing some very good things.

“But, for me, I believe that just one win will then trigger another win and it will snowball. It’s just that we need to have this first win, and hopefully this will trigger many other wins.”

On keeping spirits high in the camp

“We have been able to keep the morale high in the group, but of course, after the matches, there’s been a bit of a reaction because we do feel a bit frustrated. We do work very hard and we’ve not been getting the rewards for that hard work.

“But despite the results, we’ve kept very positive as a team, and the group remains very solid.”

On the 4-1 win at Brentford last season

“Obviously, all performances are different, but we know what we are capable of doing in this match. It is possible to have another win away at Brentford.

“We will keep the last game in mind and hopefully, I can score again, and continue to score many, many goals. We do know their weaknesses, and we know our own strengths.

“We are hoping to actually score a goal from very early in the match and then hopefully we can add more afterwards. We don’t want to just have to defend but be offensive and score more and more. We know what we are capable of and how we can do a good match tomorrow.”

On aiming for a first Premier League win

“Brentford have indeed had a very good season so far, so we know we have to be very careful, but we also don’t want to over judge them, or even under judge them.

“But we know what we are capable of and believe we can achieve that first win this weekend. We need to have this trust in ourselves and the belief that we can play against another great team.

“The group is definitely very determined for this match and, as I say, we are capable of winning. We have done very good work against great teams already this season, so we are developing and we are fuelling the trust in ourselves.

“We are hoping that we can get some points from this weekend and in this match, in order for our team to really bounce back from what has come before.”
