Head coach Gary O’Neil confirmed Hee Chan Hwang’s absence will not be “overly long” after he returned from international duty injured recently.
The attacker was withdrawn 23 minutes into South Korea’s victory over Jordan last Thursday, having tangled with an opponent and injured his ankle.
Speaking in his pre-Manchester City press conference, O’Neil confirmed he’ll be without the 28-year-old on Sunday, but not in the long-term.
O’Neil said: “It's not nothing, there's something there. He injured a ligament on the inside of his ankle, but from now it’s probably a couple to a few weeks, nothing overly long.”
Hwang is yet to score for Wolves this season, having hit 13 goals under O’Neil last season, and the head coach hopes the South Korean will use this opportunity to rest and regain his sharpness for the Premier League.
“I think it gives ‘Channy’ a moment now, because if you think where Hee Chan was this time last year, and the form he was in, and how sharp he looked, since he's went away to the Asia Cup last season and came back and picked up a couple of injuries, he's never really been able to get back to that.
“Obviously he needs to rest and he needs to recover the ankle, but also try and get himself in a place that he gets sharp and he gets fit, and he gets himself in a really good spot that he's able to come back and impact the Premier League in the way that he showed he could last season.”
