Nelson Semedo has been named Wolves’ SUDU Player of the Month for October after a neck and neck battle for the award with Matheus Cunha.
During a month where Wolves picked up a point from their three Premier League outings, the Portuguese international shone at both ends of the pitch, especially after Gary O’Neil switched to a back three, allowing Semedo to utilise his attacking threat.
Despite defeat at Brentford starting off October for Wolves, Semedo was able to claim his first assist of the campaign when he was played into space inside the right of the box before finding Cunha with a cut-back, which the forward turned into the first equalising goal.
Playing at right wing-back for the visit of Manchester City to Molineux, Semedo earned his second assist in as many games, with the switch in system giving Semedo the freedom to get forward, while also providing defensive stability as he dealt brilliantly with the threat of Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish.
But it was a surging run down the right which saw him set up Jorgen Strand Larsen to open the scoring with a pinpoint cross, as he laid the ball on a plate for the Norwegian to fire home.
Semedo rounded off the month by showcasing his defensive skills away at Brighton, as he won more duels and produced the most clearances and tackles than any player on the pitch at the Amex.
A leader on and off the field, Semedo has already begun November by wearing the captain’s armband from the start of last weekend's game with Crystal Palace in Mario Lemina’s absence, and has now picked up the Player of the Month award, pipping Cunha to the prize, while fellow wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri finished third in the voting.
On winning the award, Semedo said: “It feels good, but there’s a lot of work to do. I know we’re not in a good situation at the moment, but it's really good to get this award. But I’d definitely change it for three points on Saturday.”
