Matheus Cunha says it was “amazing” to hear the atmosphere inside Molineux on Boxing Day evening after what has been a difficult campaign until recent weeks.
A 2-0 victory over Manchester United under the lights was the Old Gold’s most impressive outing at Molineux this term and represented two wins from two for new head coach Vitor Pereira. Cunha himself opened the scoring by netting direct from a corner, before setting up Hee Chan Hwang for the sealer, and Cunha praised the new head coach for the energy he’s brought to Wolves in a short space of time.
On a big win on Boxing Day
“I feel like the fans need to have these kinds of days to enjoy and be happy. After the game was amazing to hear them all so happy.
“When someone new comes in, they bring a lot of things, and with Vitor it’s no different. He’s been 18 years with the dream to come and manage a team in the Premier League. We feel happy about this kind of things, because we can feel the energy, how they push us to be better. We can show everyone that we are all together.”
On Pereira’s impact
“It’s the energy, when someone new comes in, they come with the dream to start to win. They start to manage it better. Then everyone feels they need to show him.
“In the end it was a little bit hard with Gary. He was very good to us and brought out team last season to another level. That happens, the team goes down a little bit. I don't think was only the fault of him, but that can happen. Vitor came in with new energy, with the new dreams, and then everyone’s tried to impress him. These little details then help us on a pitch. You can show everyone the energy changes.”
On his goal from a corner
“The staff came to me and said at the corner shoot to the goal, don’t cross, shoot to the goal, because maybe something can happen. They manage very well to tell me these kind of details, and I'm so glad to take it well, the corner, and it’s my first goal with a corner. I hope I can do more.”

On his role in the second
“For me, the most important thing is helping teammates. With Gary, I started to be a leader in the group. He was someone that taught me very well how to be a leader. With Victor it’s not different. He came to me, he talked with me, and he keeps pushing me to do these details. I feel happy because I can help my teammates. Honestly, when you do these kinds of things, and see the happiness in the face of Channy, you feel happy because you can say you did your job.”
