December has been a month of two halves, with six games separated by the change of head coach. Gary O’Neil oversaw defeats to Everton, West Ham United and Ipswich Town, before Vitor Pereira earned seven points from the three games he was in charge, with wins over Leicester City and Manchester United before Sunday’s 2-2 draw away at Tottenham Hotspur.

Matt Doherty scored his first goal of the season in the defeat to West Ham, before Matheus Cunha added to his growing collection of goals in the loss at home to Ipswich in O’Neil’s final outing.

The visit to Leicester saw Wolves find the back of the net three times in the opening 45 minutes, as Goncalo Guedes opened the scoring to set the Pereira era underway, before Rodrigo Gomes scored his first goal in Old Gold to double their advantage.

Cunha’s ninth of the season made it 3-0 and an impressive defensive display in the second half saw Wolves earn their first away clean sheet since January.

The three points came once again on Boxing Day – meaning Wolves have gone unbeaten in their festive fixture since 2013 – as Pereira’s side earned another clean sheet and a second on the bounce in the Portuguese’s opening two matches as head coach.

Both of Wolves’ goals came in the second half against Man United at Molineux, as Cunha made it 10 for the season with a stunning strike directly from a corner, before the Brazilian set up Hee Chan Hwang for his first of the campaign following a quick counter-attack after Tommy Doyle snatched the ball on half way before laying up Cunha for the assist.

Wolves rounded out December at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Hwang and Jorgen Strand Larsen were among the goalscorers as Rayan Ait-Nouri claimed assists for both goals.

In a well-worked free-kick routine, the Algerian laid a pass out to Hwang who curled his effort in off the post, before his perfectly placed pass late in the game was collected well by Strand Larsen before the Norwegian fired an unstoppable shot high into the roof of the net – ensuring 2024 ended on a high for the Old Gold.
