Matheus Cunha’s stunning ‘Olimpico’ goal against Manchester United has been nominated for the Guiness Goal of the Month award for December 2024.
The Brazilian has made a habit of scoring extraordinary goals this season, and after a record hat-trick of nominations for November, he added another one to his collection on Boxing Day when he scored directly from a corner at Molineux.
After a goalless first half against the Red Devils in their most recent festive fixture, Wolves were awarded a corner just before the hour mark, with Cunha stepping up to take it.
With a curling effort, which appeared to be destined for the head of one of his teammates, the ball instead took a big swing over the head of United keeper Andre Onana and into the net off the inside of the far post.
That goal earned Vitor Pereira’s side their second win in succession under the new head coach and Cunha will now compete against seven other Premier League scorers to earn the final Goal of the Month award for 2024.
Cunha faces competition from Alexander Isak, Tariq Lamptey, Amad Diallo, Enes Unal, Cole Palmer and Chris Wood.
Supporters can vote for Cunha now, with voting set to close at 11am on Monday 6th January.
