Semedo | ‘I believe 100% in this team'

Captain Nelson Semedo insists he has full confidence in the Wolves squad to end their winless Premier League run after experiencing a fourth top flight loss in succession on Saturday against Arsenal.

Wolves are still searching for a first Premier League win of 2025 and were unfortunate not to pick up a point against the Gunners in an improved showing, but ultimately, Riccardo Calafiori’s goal proved to be the difference.

And despite not tasting success since Boxing Day, Semedo feels there is enough quality in the Old Gold ranks to be able to get out of the current slump and start picking up results which would lift them away from the relegation zone.

On defeat to the Gunners

“We’re disappointed, obviously. We had a good opportunity to make some points here, especially when we were playing with one more player.

“We had a couple minutes with one more player, so I think we should have taken advantage of that. But even in that period, I think they had more of the ball than us, and then when they equalised, they could score and win the game.

“But in general, I think we did a good game. We did a good job.”

On opportunities in front of goal

“It's what I'm saying. I think we have to be smarter on those points. We will score again, for sure, like we’ve been scoring a lot, but we have to move on.

“I think we did a good game, against a good team as well. Arsenal is a good team, but we had the ball, we created our chances, but we have to move on.

“We have to be working harder, and now we have a full week to work and prepare the next game against us.”

On Gomes’ sending off

“Joao is still young, but he's a very experienced player. He won a lot of things as well, he’s a national team player, he is a very good player for us, he helps us a lot, and I'm pretty sure that he knows.

“He knows what he’s done wrong, but he knows what he does good, so I think he'll learn from it. But he's a very important player for us, and we have to keep him well, we have to keep him confident so he can come back and help us when he's available.”

On remaining confident

“My belief in this group is 200%. I know everybody's working super hard to get out of this situation. I know the staff is working really hard as well, and they’ve help us a lot since the day they arrived, and I believe 100% in this team.

“I know we have a great team with great players. We have been playing against very good teams, it’s true, but I'm pretty sure that we're going to work hard and we're going to do better.”
