Pereira | 'Now the squad is more balanced'

Vitor Pereira believes deadline day signings Marshall Munetsi and Nasser Djiga have helped to create a more balanced Wolves squad as his side look to push on during the second half of the season.

Midfielder Munetsi and defender Djiga joined Emmanuel Agbadou to complete the team’s January transfer window dealings and after greeting the newest pair to Compton Park this week, the head coach thinks they will have an immediate impact – however, he remained tight lipped on whether they will make their debuts in Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Blackburn Rovers.

On what Munetsi will bring to the squad

“Physically, he’s a very strong player. He is a player who goes box-to-box, strong in the duels, strong in the air, with a good quality of pass and he runs a lot.”

On his relationship with Agbadou helping him to settle

“I think so. They are very good friends and he's a player that can bring us the physicality that we need, the solutions that we need in the middle.

“Because the experience that we had before, when we had Andre out one game, we had problems, then we had Joao out for another game.

“Bellegarde did very well, and he was – for me – in this position a very good surprise, but I think now the squad is more balanced.”

On Djiga’s qualities adding to the defence

“He is fast, he’s strong in the duels, has a good profile and is good with the ball. He has the profile that we need to build our play.”

On bringing in a second defender this window

“If you look at our team, before [the Aston Villa game] we conceded a lot of goals. We need to be stronger at set pieces, stronger in the air, stronger at defending duels, going man to man, and I think to play in the way that I like to play [another defender needed to be signed].

“Because a lot of times I like to do high pressure, and during these moments, at the back, we are man to man, and it is important to have players who are strong in this kind of situation.”

On opportunity to make their debuts this weekend

“They need some time to understand what I want from them and to connect with their teammates, for sure, but they will not need a long time to do it.”
