Cunha | 'We did what was important to do to win this game'

Although Matheus Cunha believes Wolves rode their luck against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, the Brazilian was delighted to score the all-important goal to secure three points on the road.

Having already found the net in the games over Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool in recent weeks, Cunha made it four from four when he hammered the ball past Kepa Arrizabalaga just after the half hour mark at the Vitality Stadium.

Despite his goal earning Wolves their sixth Premier League win of the campaign, Cunha felt the red card handed to Illia Zabarnyi was unfortunate and his team should have done more to put the game beyond doubt with a man advantage for more than an hour.

On three points against the Cherries

“It was a very tough game. Bournemouth have played the whole season very good, and then we knew coming here we’d have to be very clever to play against them, and then do what's important to do to win this game.

“We have this kind of luck because I think the defender was a little bit unfortunate with the action, but this can happen, and then we are very happy about the victory.”

On facing 10-men for an hour

“It's so hard to play [against a team] without one player. We knew we needed to be intelligent and then be a little bit more clever with the ball.

“But sometimes I don't think we did what's important to keep the position, to be clever, to pass the ball, and, honestly, we worked and then we had this kind of luck to win this game.

“We don't think we did a very good game, but we did what was important to do to win this game.”

On a fourth goal in four

“Always for a striker, for a mid-offensive player, it’s always very important to keep scoring, to keep assisting, and these kinds of things.

“I scored, but I don't think this is the most important point now, because the most important point is the three points.

“Our situation is not the same situation, and we have a lot of time to enjoy this kind of moment, but we need to keep going. I'm much more happy because this goal is what helped us to get a very important win.”

On having belief to avoid relegation

“Of course. We have this kind of quality, and I think the second half against Liverpool showed this. We played against the best team in the season right now, and we showed we can keep going and have the personality to do what we need to do to win every game in the season.

“But I think we need to be a little bit more clever to keep the level and not drop this kind of ‘good performance, bad performance’, we need to find a way to be regular, and I think this is most important to stay in the Premier League.”
