Vitor Pereira believes his side showed fatigue from Saturday during Tuesday’s loss to Fulham, but also insists concentration levels have to improve.
Wolves beat Bournemouth on Saturday and the head coach named an unchanged 11 three days later for the visit of Fulham, so conceding in the first minute of the game was a setback.
Despite equalising through Joao Gomes, Wolves fell behind again and didn’t have the energy to pull themselves back into the contest again, so on Wednesday the hard work begins again for Pereira, as he looks at what went wrong at Molineux.
On a missed opportunity
“Of course. Today, I'm frustrated because after three days playing again, we started the first half by conceding a very easy goal. Our level of concentration, our focus was not at the level of the game. After, we reacted, we started to play against a good team winning one zero, and we created some situations, and we scored the goal.
“But, when you start the second half in the same way, it's very difficult because in the second half I felt that the team was tired, because the movements, the pressing was not the pressing that we’re used to and when they started with the subs, they had a lot of solutions in the squad. For us, it's not the case.”
On being better as a team
“We cannot build a team around a player [Cunha]. We should create situations. We should create dynamics to solve, to create goals, to score goals. We needed to defend well, and today we committed mistakes that we cannot commit again. It means that tomorrow we start correcting these mistakes.
“We need to reflect. We need to think about our mistakes. We need to look at ourselves, it's not about the other team, it's about us. Today, after three days, the players tried everything, but not in the right way. This is a problem against a team that when they started to do the subs, they came with a lot of players with high quality, because they have these solutions in the squad. At this moment with the injuries for us, it’s difficult.”
On the injuries to his players
“The only striker that we have is Larsen. He came from injury, he’s not fit yet and is trying to get his condition and I am afraid that if he’s injured again, it will be a big problem for us. Today was a reflection of the game on Saturday, two games after three days, it was not possible to recover totally.”
