Toti | 'Everybody gave everything'

Toti says Wolves “gave everything” in their cruel Emirates FA Cup defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Old Gold battled through 120 minutes with ten men, with Toti at the heart of their committed defensive performance, but their efforts went unrewarded after the Cherries won on penalties.

After a cup tie which had everything, Toti says Wolves must take the positives from the performance into an important end to the Premier League season, and learn from mistakes made in Dorset during training this week.

On a battling performance

“It was a hard game. We knew that because we played here not long ago. We knew they were going to come with everything from the first minute until 120 minutes in necessary, and that’s what happened. We knew we had to stick together.

“We went to penalties and lost, but I’m still proud of what we did. Everyone was running together, helping each other. It’s hard to lose like this, especially with the way we were defending, with everything. We need to keep our heads up and relax and recover for the next games that we have.”

On handling Bournemouth’s pressure

“It was tough. They were coming with everything, balls behind the back, from inside and outside, and the fatigue was starting to affect us as well. We needed to change some players because of injuries, we needed to change a little bit how to play. We had to change a little bit too, because of the way they were pressing us, but we did everything we could and went to penalties, and when you go to penalties it’s not just luck, but we lost.

“I was giving my life to defend the goal. We knew they were going to come with everything, and I was giving everything to help the team, clearing from the goal and I scored my penalty, but in the end I’m sad with the result because we lost, but still proud.”

On a tough run of games

“We’ve had games close to this, so we knew we had to recover properly for this game. It’s not easy because there are so many games, so we knew that could affect us a little bit. Of course, we changed one other player. Everybody was ready to come to the game and give everything. That’s the feeling we had at the end of the game, that everybody gave everything to help the team.”

On rallying behind the team

“This happens. Someone’s going to miss, from us or from them. Doc is one of our captains and Bouba. This is football, this happens, we are proud from what they did. They helped us during the game. This happens, we went there and we need to keep our heads up. I know the fans are proud today.”

On taking the positives into the Premier League

“We need always to look at the positive things and take the good things from the game, and the bad things in the next training session we’ll improve. We need to take the good things for the next game in the Premier League.”
