Matheus Cunha’s stunning strike against Liverpool has been nominated for the Guiness Goal of the Month award for February 2025.
The Brazilian added to his collection of extraordinary goals this season by producing another trademark long-range effort in the narrow loss to the Reds at Anfield.
After finding themselves two goals behind at the break, Wolves fought back valiantly in a sensational second half showing in Merseyside, where as well as becoming the first ever Premier League side to restrict Liverpool to zero shots on target in a half at Anfield, they peppered the Liverpool goal with chances of their own.
However, the only one to beat Alisson was a curled cracker from Cunha with just over 20 minutes of the contest remaining.
After Nelson Semedo picked up the ball up wide on the right, he cut inside for Jean-Ricner Bellegarde who produced a clever backheeled pass for Cunha who – after faking a shot with his right – switched the ball onto his left before curling an unstoppable shot from 25 yards out, into the far corner of the net.
