Pereira | 'He has the profile in a defender I like'

Vitor Pereira was delighted to see Yerson Mosquera put pen to paper on a new contract as he fits the profile he looks for in a central defender perfectly.

Pereira has been without the Colombian throughout his time in charge of the Old Gold, with Mosquera recovering from a long-term knee injury picked up at Aston Villa in September.

However, when studying Wolves prior to his arrival, the Colombian caught the head coach’s eye, and what he brings off the pitch has further impressed Periera, who was delighted to see the 23-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal.

On the new contract

“I’m very happy because when I started to study the team, Mosquera was playing. He has the profile in a central defender that I like. He’s aggressive, strong, fast, good with the ball, and for me he has all the attributes to help us. I don’t have any doubts that he would fit my system.”

On his return to fitness

“Injuries are part of a career. It’s the worst part of a career, but the Mosquera that I see every day at the club is the kind of personality that brings good energy to everybody.

“I’ll never push a player to return early. You must respect the body, and what I wish is he recovers totally from injury and maybe at the end of the season he can start with us on the pitch, we’ll see.”

On a positive influence on the group

“He’s injured, but every time he’s playing with teammates, giving energy. He goes to the stadium and tries to share his smile with everybody, always smiling. This is the profile that I like to be in my side.

“Inside the pitch is a player that can add something more to us. Outside of the pitch, he’s a leader with a smile, with good energy, and I’m very happy for him and for us.”
