Strand Larsen | 'The ball went into the net - it doesn't matter how'

After scoring his 10th goal of his debut season at Wolves to secure a 1-0 win over West Ham United at Molineux, Jorgen Strand Larsen believes he has proved his doubters wrong.

The Norwegian ensured his first year in gold and black would end with him reaching double figures when he fired home the crucial goal midway inside the first half against the Hammers, but despite securing three points for Wolves which lifted the team 12 points from the drop zone, Strand Larsen feels there is still plenty of work to do if the Old Gold want to move up the Premier League standings.

On three points against West Ham

“It’s a massive win, especially after that three points we had before the break. So, we’re really happy now.

“I think the weekend gave us a little extra break there, playing on a Tuesday. It helped us a bit, because we had people traveling across the world, but I think everyone came back with a smile because of the way we ended it before the break.

“Especially for me, also, with two goals last time, I came in with confidence, so it was nice.”

On his 10th goal of the season

“I don't care [about the deflection]. The ball went into the net. It doesn't matter how, so I'm happy anyway. But 10 is always a goal for a striker and we have eight games to go.

“I think many people have been doubting me a little bit, and I think it's nice to show them. I'm just happy to be here and play football.

“Sometimes as a striker, it goes up and down, you will have moments where it's not going right, and today I was a bit lucky, but that's how it is.”

On pulling away from the bottom three

“That also gives us a bit more confidence to play the way we want to. I think the first half today was outstanding, but the second half was just about gathering the points.

“I think if were able to kill the game in the first half, we might have won it two or three nil, because in the first half we were really good.

“But second half, we let them back into the game and were a bit lucky that we actually didn't concede, so we have some stuff to work on, but with a gap now we can play with a little bit more confidence.”

On new contracts for Gomes and Mosquera

“It's massive. I think during the last two days, we signed [new contracts with] two great young players. Joao has played all season and has been fantastic – we need to keep him as long as we can.

“And Yerson, he's been injured, but the way he played before his injury was fantastic. Two great players, and I can't wait for next season where hopefully they can both be on the pitch at the same time.”

On his relationship with Steve Bull

“Now we're friends. We talk all the time. We were talking in the pre-season and he taught me some things, and now we talked just before the weekend and he's such a legend here.

“It was nice to hear from him and he also gave me some life lessons.”
