Strand Larsen | 'Celebrating that close to the fans is always good'

Jorgen Strand Larsen says his winner at Ipswich Town was “probably the ugliest” goal he’s scored, but he didn’t care as he celebrated with a jubilant away end.

Post-match at Portman Road felt significant, as Strand Larsen and his teammates celebrated in the Suffolk sun following Wolves’ comeback victory, which moved them 12 points clear of the relegation zone.

The Old Gold’s number nine now has four goals in his past three matches – all of which ended in victories – and has urged Wolves to continue their momentum for the remainder of the season.

On a big win at Ipswich

“Good thoughts from celebrating with the fans. Amazing comeback, and that's what we're here for. I think we looked like two different teams, and it's nice to see that we can come back after a pretty bad first half.

“Ipswich did well first half, especially their strong defenders, you don’t get a lot of time at crosses and set pieces. A difficult team to play against physically. Half time with the gaffer, he did well.

“He made a few changes, and we were more on the ball. We created a few chances, and slowly we got back into the game, and Pablo’s goal was really important, and then it was a matter of time before we scored one more.”

On his crucial winning goal

“I've scored many goals already, and many important goals, but obviously this one is big, not the prettiest one, probably the ugliest one I have, but it doesn't matter, into the net it went and I was onside just, so that's nice.

“I couldn't care less about the hand [in the celebrations]. Probably the doctor will say you have to be careful. Obviously when we went nuts, and it was just amazing, a good feeling. Celebrating that close to the fans is always good.”

On returning to form

“There's no secret. Just always keep working hard, I've had a few tough months, I’ve been injured, broke my hand, and had a few tough moments not scoring goals. That's just the way it is as a striker, your form will go up and down, especially in a new team, in the new league, and especially where we have been this season, fighting relegation.

“Just stay in it and work hard every day. I haven't changed a thing. I'm just myself and positive and smiling every time, and I'm back.”

On moving clear of the drop zone

“I think we still have to be in every game, because we saw how strong Ipswich were, and this league is brutal, so everyone can have a good period again. You never know what's going to happen behind us. So, we just have to keep focused on ourselves.

“Obviously, it's a big gap, but we have a few tough games to still to play, but I'm not afraid of anyone. So, we can take three points in every game, and that's hopefully what we can do.”
