Gomes | 'This is the best moment of my professional life'

Joao Gomes says he’s in one of the best moments of his career currently, but insists Wolves still have work to do, starting at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Wolves have won their last four Premier League matches, and during that sequence their influential Brazilian signed a new long-term contract, while continuing his stellar performances in the heart of the Old Gold midfield.

Gomes and his teammates are now preparing for a trip to Manchester United on Sunday, and while he admits the table has a nicer look to it nowadays, the 24-year-old isn’t prepared to let Wolves take their foot off the gas.

On work still to be done

“I am very happy at the moment with what the team is going through, but I still think we need to remain focused and stay grounded, because mathematically it’s not over, so our focus is paramount for the time being, avoiding any errors.

“I am the kind of person that knows anything can change in a split second. Right now we’re in a good spot with our points, but it can change so easily from one week to another so our biggest focus should be game by game, instead of looking forward too much.”

On being in a great moment

“I think this is the best moment of my life, professional speaking and also personally. It seems like everything right now is coming into place which makes me really happy. I’m thankful to god and my teammates for making this happen.

“As long as I continue to play with passion, and continue helping the team, making the supporters proud, that’s all that matters. It’s not just me, but all of the players want to give their all for the team, so I think it comes easily being frustrated at not being able to help the team.”

On facing Man United

“I saw the match [against Lyon] and they are one of the biggest clubs in the world, so deserve the respect, but no matter the players playing against us, we’ll be ready for them. That’s out goal.”

On his partnership with Andre

“I think that ever since he came to the team, he’s definitely elevated the way I play. He gives me so much freedom, so much space to attack more often than I ever did, and I think the results speak for themselves.

“We get along so well, on and off the pitch, and I just want to continue that relationship for many more games.”

On Vitor holding a big ambition

“That’s his mission here and everyone at Wolves shares the same wish. No matter what happens, we have to just keep aiming higher. If even one or two people don’t believe we can do this, we won’t be able to see the results, so we need everyone, from every department, to want to aim even higher.”
