Semedo | 'It’s not done for us'

Nelson Semedo is urging his Wolves teammates to keep pushing as much as they can for the remaining five games of the season after securing Premier League survival at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Old Gold made it five wins from five with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at the weekend, but the captain feels there is still plenty more to come from his team and believes they can continue to push further up the league table in the remaining fixtures.

On wanting more

“Obviously, we are relieved, but we want more, like we showed today, like we showed the last couple of games, we have five games in a row winning, and we want to aim for more.

“Next game, I just want to tell the supporters to keep coming, to keep showing the love they're showing to us. It's been amazing. It's been amazing what we've been doing the last few months, and now we're safe. But we still have a month-and-a-half left and it’s not done for us.

“We have to keep looking higher on the table, we have to show ambition, show the same passion we've been showing since Vitor arrived and keep working hard, because we can still achieve some good things.”

On securing Premier League safety

“I keep saying to the guys that staying in the Premier League, obviously, when you’re down there, you have to make it objective, but that’s not enough for us. With the quality we have in this dressing room, we have to aim for more – and that’s what we're going to do now.

“We know that we can go higher on the table, we’ve just beaten United at home, we’ve beaten United twice this season, and we’ve got to go for more.

“We have a big game against Leicester next week, and we’ve got to go for more, we’ve got to go for it with everything.”

On expecting to be safe with five game remaining

“Yes, because I believed in the work that Vitor is doing. I think everybody believed this. I think that was the key, honestly, and that was the key to win here again, because everybody believed that we could do it.

“Everybody knows that we have quality for it, we just had to work hard for it, and we did. That is our reward, the three points. We know we have so much quality, and I always believed that we were going to be safe.”

On leading the team during a record-breaking period

“It’s been amazing, to be honest. I was not expecting to be the captain. Obviously, in the beginning, even thought I was one of the senior guys on the team, I was here with Mario and he was a very good captain, and we were doing the [leadership] things together, me and him, but I was not expecting him to leave, and that's why I was not expecting to be captain.

“But I'm enjoying a lot. I think the guys trust me and I'm doing my best. I think I still have a lot of things to improve as a captain, but obviously I’m proud to be captain of Wolves. It’s a dream come true, and I’m enjoying the moment.”

On a fifth win in a row

“That was great. This is Manchester United and obviously they are not in a good moment, but it's three points at Old Trafford, so we have to be happy for that. Our supporters are happy, that's the most important thing and it’ll be a happy Easter for them.”
